Hyderabad School Faces Row Over Alleged Islamic Homework Entry in Student Diary

Hyderabad: A school in Hyderabad has landed in controversy after an alleged Islamic religious homework entry was found in a student’s diary, prompting a complaint to the local police.

According to the complaint, a relative of the student, Supriya Goud, claimed she noticed entries such as “Read Kalama” and “Deeniyath” in the student’s homework diary. She alleged that the school was making students study Islamic religious lessons and termed it an attempt to influence children.

It is a kind of brainwashing for the students. Indirectly, the teachers are trying to impose the practice,” she alleged, adding that she would also raise the issue with senior officials of the Education Department.

School Calls It an Inadvertent Error

Responding to the allegations, the school management denied that Islamic lessons were being imposed on all students.

According to the management, Deeniyath is a subject taught only to Muslim students. It said the homework entry was mistakenly written in the student’s diary by a teacher and described the incident as an inadvertent error.

A complaint has also been lodged with the local police.

Police said they have begun an inquiry into the matter and are verifying the facts before deciding on any further action.
