Hyderabad, August 31 (Maxim News): Telangana plans to expand fertility and IVF services in government hospitals across the state, Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said on Monday.
The minister directed health officials to extend IVF services to more districts in phases. He issued the directions during a review meeting with senior medical department officials at the Telangana Secretariat.
Rajanarsimha reviewed the functioning of government IVF centres at Gandhi Hospital and Petlaburj Hospital. He also discussed the regulation of private fertility centres and the implementation of laws governing assisted reproductive technology and surrogacy.
The minister said the government would closely monitor private fertility centres to ensure compliance with the law. He warned that authorities would not ignore centres that violate prescribed regulations.
39,802 People Receive Fertility Services
According to the minister, 477 assisted reproductive technology and surrogacy centres have registered in Telangana. Officials have inspected 379 private fertility centres so far.
The inspections identified deviations at 50 centres. Authorities cancelled the registrations of two centres and temporarily suspended permissions for nine others.
Rajanarsimha also directed officials to prevent fertility centres from placing an unnecessary financial burden on patients. He stressed the need for proper regulation of fertility services and compliance with prescribed standards.
The two government IVF centres have provided fertility services to 39,802 people, the minister said.
Together, the centres have completed 545 IVF procedures and 521 intrauterine insemination procedures.
The government plans to strengthen these services further and extend them to other districts in a phased manner.
The move aims to improve access to fertility treatment through the public healthcare system.
Meanwhile, the minister asked officials to give special attention to enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act.
The law seeks to prevent the misuse of diagnostic techniques for sex determination and related practices.
Officials conducted 2,600 inspections at hospitals and scanning centres between April and July, according to the minister.
Authorities have also increased surveillance on centres suspected of violating provisions related to sex determination.
Rajanarsimha directed officials to maintain strict oversight of both fertility services and diagnostic facilities. He said regulatory action should continue against establishments that violate applicable laws.
The review meeting also focused on strengthening public fertility services and ensuring better access for patients.
The minister instructed officials to prepare plans for phased expansion of IVF services across Telangana.
