Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, is set to meet on Thursday to approve the State Budget for 2026–27, paving the way for its presentation in the Legislative Assembly during the first week of August.
The meeting at the Secretariat will finalise the first full Budget of the TVK-led government since it assumed office earlier this year. The Budget is expected to outline the government’s economic roadmap while reflecting its governance priorities and election commitments.
First TVK Budget to Focus on Welfare and Growth
The maiden Budget of the TVK government is likely to include a series of welfare measures, development initiatives, and policy announcements across key sectors such as education, healthcare, employment, social welfare, infrastructure, and urban development.
In recent weeks, Chief Minister Vijay held several review meetings with ministers, senior officials, and department secretaries to assess Budget proposals submitted by various departments. The consultations focused on identifying priority sectors, evaluating new schemes, and finalising major allocations.
The Cabinet is also expected to review and approve the Agriculture Budget, which is likely to include measures to strengthen the farming sector through increased investment in irrigation, agricultural infrastructure, crop productivity, and farmer welfare.
Government sources indicated that the Budget will feature several people-centric initiatives aimed at improving public services, boosting economic growth, and fulfilling the promises made by the ruling party during the elections.
Besides Budget-related discussions, the Cabinet is expected to approve proposals for new industrial investment projects across Tamil Nadu. These projects are aimed at attracting fresh investments, expanding manufacturing, and creating employment opportunities.
Following Cabinet approval, the Finance Department will complete the remaining formalities before presenting the Budget in the Assembly.
The first Budget of the TVK government is expected to set the direction for the administration’s long-term development strategy and policy priorities for the coming financial year.
