Hyderabad, Oct 17 (Maxim News): Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha has accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing to anticipate drought conditions and take timely preventive measures.
She alleged that the government’s delayed response had increased the distress faced by farmers and agricultural labourers across Telangana. Kavitha made the remarks while addressing the media at her party office.
According to Kavitha, warnings about the potential impact of El Niño had emerged as early as January. She alleged that the government failed to act despite having time to prepare for possible rainfall shortages.
Kavitha also criticised the Chief Minister’s recent press conference. She said it did not present a clear action plan to address the developing agricultural crisis.
Kavitha Demands Action on Drought Affected Mandals
Kavitha said Telangana recorded a rainfall deficit of 28 per cent in August. She argued that the government should have promptly identified drought affected mandals and submitted reports to the Centre.
She claimed that other states had already declared drought affected areas and sent the required reports. Telangana, she alleged, lost valuable time instead of initiating similar measures.
Kavitha also questioned the government’s approach towards farmers during the worsening conditions. She argued that timely planning and preventive steps could have reduced the impact on farming communities.
Her remarks come as the Telangana government has begun preparing for the potential effects of El Niño. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently directed officials to develop an action plan covering drinking water, irrigation, agriculture and electricity. The government has also discussed coordination with political parties and experts to address the anticipated challenges.
The drought response has become a point of political debate, with opposition leaders questioning the government’s preparedness. The government, meanwhile, has said it is planning measures to manage possible water and power shortages.
Kavitha’s allegations reflect her assessment of the government’s response. The rainfall deficit and the effectiveness of the state’s drought preparedness remain matters requiring assessment through official data and implementation updates.
