Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has triggered a fresh flashpoint in the State Cabinet by stating that he would shut down all corporate colleges if he were given the Education portfolio. The Minister made the statement while addressing a gathering at a programme. During his address, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed deep concern over the rising number of student suicides. He also came down heavily on the standard of education being imparted by corporate colleges across the State. According to him, the system favours private institutions at the cost of government schools and qualified teachers.

“If I get a chance to become Education Minister, I will shut down all the corporate colleges. Government teachers and headmasters should enrol their children in government schools,” Venkat Reddy said. His remarks drew attention to the role of government schools and the availability of experienced teachers and research scholars within the public education system.

Meanwhile, the Minister compared staffing patterns in government and corporate institutions. He said there were many experienced teachers and research scholars working in government schools. However, he alleged that people who were unable to secure even door service jobs were being recruited as lecturers in corporate colleges. Therefore, he questioned the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in such institutions.

Later, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy recalled the challenges he faced during the earlier Congress regime. He stated that former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, during his three years in office, had not sanctioned a single paisa to Nalgonda. He said this lack of funding affected development works in the region.

Also, the Minister spoke about future development plans for Nalgonda. He said the town would undergo a metamorphosis over the next two years. He added that Nalgonda was upgraded as a Municipal Corporation even before an appeal was made, due to his personal intervention. “Upgrading it as a corporation will enable us to get many funds from the Central government directly. I can get Rs.1,000 crore to Rs.2,000 crore with my influence at the Centre,” he added.
