KTR asks ULBs to meet demand of facilities
KTR | With the rapid strides of urbanization going up, the pressure is mounting on the urban local bodies to meet the increasing infrastructure demand, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said.
He was speaking at a workshop on Pattana Pragathi programme here on Friday where Chairpersons and municipal staff from across the State were present.
KTR said that the urbanisation has increased by nearly 46 percent in Telangana and during the next five years, 51 per cent of the population will reside in cities and towns. At this juncture, it has become a challenging task for the Uban Local Bodies(ULBs) to meet the demand of providing infrastructure.

The Urban Development Minister said there were only 68 ULBs since the formation of Telangana and later, additionally 74 new municipalities had been established, totaling to 142 ULBs across the State.
In tune with the new ULBs, there is a need of additional staff and the government is now on the job for the recruitment of required staff,” KTR informed.
On the occasion, the Ministerhas set a target of establishing model markets, bio-mining plants, faecal sludge treatment plants, advanced dhobi ghats, veg and meat markets, Vaikunta Dhamams, besides digital door numbering in all the urban local bodies before completion of this financial year.
He also asked the ULBs to frame plans for achieving targets set for the forthcoming Haritha Haram.
