Hyderabad: A group of lawyers on Wednesday demanded that the Telangana government order a CBI inquiry into the murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin, alleging that the investigation has progressed slowly more than a month after the incident. The lawyers also questioned the pace of the probe and sought stronger action against the accused.
Addressing a press conference, members of the Faculty of Lawyers appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). They said Khaja Moizuddin had actively fought to protect Waqf properties and argued that the case requires an independent investigation.
Lawyers question pace of investigation
The lawyers alleged that more than 38 days have passed since the murder, yet the investigation has not reached a satisfactory stage. They claimed the government has not ordered a special investigation and has not sought police custody of the main accused, Alam Khan, whom they described as politically influential and financially powerful.
Furthermore, the advocates questioned the effectiveness of the ongoing investigation. They said the probe has failed to inspire confidence among Khaja Moizuddin’s family members and members of the legal fraternity. They also claimed the police have not shared any investigation findings with the victim’s family.
The lawyers further questioned why investigators have not made full use of Hyderabad’s extensive surveillance network to strengthen the case. They also asked why the police have not sought custody of the accused for further questioning.
Therefore, the Faculty of Lawyers urged the Telangana government to hand over the case to the CBI. The members argued that an independent agency could ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation.
Finally, the lawyers warned that they would announce their future course of action if the government does not accept their demand for a CBI probe.
The Telangana government and the investigating agencies have not responded to the allegations made by the lawyers at the time of publication.
