Hyderabad: Maharashtra Municipal Elections are witnessing active polling across the state, with voting underway for thousands of civic seats. Polling began at 7.30 am on Thursday for 2,869 seats in 29 municipal corporations. A total of 3.48 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise. The polling process will continue until 5.30 pm, according to the available details.
Meanwhile, the elections have drawn wide public attention as well known personalities stepped out to vote early in the day. Many celebrities exercised their right to vote at different polling stations. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar cast his vote at Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat voted in Nagpur. Also, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar participated in the voting process. BJP leader Prakash Javadekar and Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol also cast their votes along with their family members.
The participation of public figures added visibility to the Maharashtra Municipal Elections. Their presence at polling booths highlighted the importance of civic participation. Therefore, voter turnout became a key focus as polling continued through the day. Officials continued the voting process across all listed municipal corporations without interruption.

Compared to other municipal corporations in the state, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections are expected to be particularly interesting. The Mumbai municipal polls have drawn attention due to the political dynamics involved. It is noteworthy that Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray are contesting together in this election.
In Mumbai alone, 1,700 candidates are in the fray for 227 seats. This scale highlights the competitive nature of the civic contest in the state capital. Meanwhile, polling continued peacefully as voters queued up at booths throughout the day. The process remained scheduled to end at 5.30 pm.
Later, authorities confirmed that the counting of votes will take place on Friday. The results are expected to determine the political balance in several urban local bodies.
