Hyderabad, July 10: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday responded to remarks by former minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao, saying the Congress would consider his induction only if he formally decides to join the party.
Addressing the media, Mahesh Kumar Goud said the Congress would deliberate on the matter in its Political Affairs Committee before taking any decision.
Referring to Harish Rao’s recent statement that he could resolve Telangana’s irrigation issues if given the Irrigation portfolio for three months, Mahesh Kumar Goud questioned the claim.
“If Harish Rao really joins the Congress, the party will discuss the matter. The Political Affairs Committee will decide whether to admit him into the party,” he said.
He also criticised the BRS leadership, stating that those who failed to address key issues during their decade-long tenure cannot claim they would resolve them in just three months.
Mahesh Kumar Goud added that the Congress government is currently focused on correcting the financial burden and policy mistakes inherited from the previous administration.
Responding to reports of internal differences within the Congress, the TPCC chief said differing opinions are natural in a democratic party.
He said issues involving Minister Konda Surekha, MLA Kadiyam Srihari, and leaders in Tungaturthi would be resolved through dialogue.
According to Mahesh Kumar Goud, the party has appointed two senior leaders to hear both sides after the chairman of the disciplinary committee was unavailable.
He maintained that suspension is not always the solution and reiterated that every party member is treated equally.
Mahesh Kumar Goud also took a swipe at BJP MP Etela Rajender, alleging that he was a minister when incidents of water diversion and irrigation-related issues occurred during the previous government.
He said the Congress government remains committed to resolving Telangana’s irrigation challenges and strengthening governance.
