According to police, Revenue Inspector Talari Ilaiah, posted in Cheriyal mandal, received a phone call on Thursday from a person claiming to be an ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The caller allegedly threatened to raid the officer’s office and residence, claiming that several complaints had been received against him. The fraudster then demanded ₹1 lakh to “settle” the matter and avoid action.

Panicked by the threats, the Revenue Inspector transferred ₹96,000 to the mobile number provided by the caller.

Complaint Filed After Realising the Fraud

A few hours later, Ilaiah realised he had been cheated and approached the Komuravelly Police Station to lodge a complaint.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the cyber fraudster and recover the amount.

The incident comes just days after the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Cheriyal Tehsildar Korra Dileep Nayak while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 from a farmer, a case that investigators believe may have been exploited by the fraudster to make the threat appear credible.
