Hyderabad, March 1 (Maxim News): Sleuths of Cyber Cell, Rachakonda arrested Gudipalli Vishnu Prasad (24) r/o. Beerappagadda, Uppal, Hyderabad; n/o. Yadavally, Racharla, Prakasam district; for using bank account details of Bylla Kishore Kumar, Soldier in the Indian Army, posted in Kargil, Jammu & Kashmir, for online transactions of Rs.3,60,000/- from Dec. 2015 to Feb. 2017.
In Feb. 2017, when the victim’s wife withdrew money through an ATM in Hyderabad, she was shocked to find low balance in her husband’s Nasik based Punjab National Bank account and on finding out with him, she came to know that he shared his bank account details with one of his relatives: Gudipalli Vishnu Prasad for help in getting the account transferred to Hyderabad.
Basing on the petition of the wife of Bylla Kishore Kumar, a case was registered in Cr.No.47/2017 under sections 406, 417, 419, 420, 468, 471 IPC and 66C & 66D Information Technology Act and investigation revealed that the accused took advantage of the minimal banking knowledge of Kishore, obtained ‘Net banking kit’ on his behalf, got the mobile number provided for receiving SMS alerts changed and misused Kishore’s account for transferring funds to his friends’ accounts for more than year, in small sums of several thousands to avoid detection.
Public are advised to regularly change their ATM PINs & Net Banking passwords, ensure physical possession of debit/credit cards lest they should be swapped by strangers in ATM kiosks on the pretext of helping in withdrawing money, be extra cautious at unmanned ATMs and contact banker/bank’s helpline if they do not receive SMS alerts for several days for various transactions.
The case is being investigated by Mohammad Riyazuddin, Inspector of Police, Cyber Cell, Rachakonda; assisted by Bhaskar, Sub-Inspector, under the supervision of Ms. D. Janaki, Addl. DCP (Crimes), Rachakonda. The Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda: Mahesh M. Bhagwat, appreciated the efforts of Cyber Cell in detecting the case. (Maxim News)
