According to police, the victim first came in contact with the fraudsters in 2021 through WhatsApp. The callers posed as operators of an online betting platform. They offered him betting options such as cricket betting, Teen Patti and casino games. They promised easy profits and quick returns. Initially, the victim deposited Rs 10,000 and earned a small profit. This early gain increased his trust in the platform.

“After earning a small profit on an initial deposit of Rs 10,000, he invested nearly Rs 10 lakh, which he later lost,” police said. However, despite the loss, the victim remained in contact with the fraudsters. Later, in March 2022, the same group contacted him again. This time, they convinced him to play on another online platform, again assuring profits.

Meanwhile, between 2021 and 2025, the victim transferred money repeatedly to multiple illegal betting websites. Police said he sent funds through bank accounts, UPI IDs, QR codes and cash deposit machines. Over time, the total amount transferred reached Rs 75 lakh. Eventually, the victim lost the entire sum, with no returns or recovery.

The Cybercrime Police stated that the accused used common online fraud methods to trap the victim over a long period. They maintained regular contact and kept pushing him to invest more money. Therefore, the financial damage increased gradually, making the fraud harder to detect early.
