- Police register case; tight security deployed in Farooqnagar
In a shocking incident in Ranga Reddy district, the family members of a woman allegedly killed the elder brother of her husband by setting him ablaze over an inter-caste marriage. The incident took place in Farooqnagar mandal on Saturday, triggering tension in the locality.
According to police reports, the woman, belonging to an OBC caste, had been in a relationship with Yerra Chandrasekhar, who comes from a lower caste. Both had known each other for a long time in Rampally village under Farooqnagar mandal. A few days ago, they decided to marry against the wishes of her family and reportedly eloped to Hyderabad.
Angered by the marriage, the woman’s father, K. Venkatesh, along with other family members, tracked down Chandrasekhar’s elder brother, Yerra Rajasekhar, in the village on Saturday. They took him to the outskirts of the area, where they allegedly attacked him with sticks. Police said the accused later tied Rajasekhar’s hands and legs, doused him with fuel, and set him on fire, leading to his death on the spot.
Soon after receiving information, police teams rushed to the scene and shifted the body for postmortem examination. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to trace and apprehend all those involved in the brutal murder. The incident has sparked shock and outrage across Farooqnagar mandal.
Following the murder, additional police pickets have been deployed in Rampally and nearby areas to prevent further unrest. Officials said tight security arrangements are in place to maintain law and order. The incident has reignited concerns over violence related to inter-caste marriages in rural Telangana, highlighting the deep-rooted social tensions that still persist in many communities.
