Telangana is charting an ambitious path to become India’s aero-engine capital by 2030, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said. Sridhar Babu noted that the foundational initiatives taken by earlier Congress governments had helped Telangana evolve into a key defence manufacturing hub. He said these efforts provided the State with a long-term advantage in building an end-to-end aerospace and defence ecosystem. According to him, recent geopolitical shifts and supply chain disruptions have made countries seek dependable partners, and Telangana is positioned to leverage this global opportunity with clear focus and preparedness.

Highlighting India’s steady growth in defence production, the Minister pointed out that national output surpassed Rs 1.5 lakh crore last year, while defence exports grew by 12 percent. He stated that such progress reflects increasing confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities. As part of its broader economic vision, the Telangana government is integrating aerospace and defence initiatives into the goal of achieving a $3 trillion economy by 2047.

Currently, Telangana hosts over 25 major national and international aerospace and defence companies along with more than 1,500 MSMEs, all contributing to the State’s rising global profile. Aerospace exports from Telangana rose from Rs 15,900 crore in 2023–24 to Rs 30,742 crore within the first nine months of 2024–25, reflecting significant momentum. The Minister listed key ongoing projects, including the Tata–Safran aero-engine plant at Adibatla, which recently became operational following an investment of Rs 425 crore. He added that the JSW Defence UAV unit (Rs 800 crore) and Premier Explosives’ new manufacturing facility (Rs 500 crore) will be commissioned soon.

Sridhar Babu said that several other global companies are in advanced discussions to invest in the State. The aerospace summit was attended by Hero Enterprises chairman Sunil Kant Munjal, ISB Dean Prof. P. Madan, Prof. Chandan Chowdhury, and senior representatives from both industry and academia.
