Hyderabad, Sept. 27: Food safety violations at restaurants in Hyderabad’s IT corridor have raised serious concerns about public health.
Special teams from the Telangana Food and Essential Drugs Standards Authority (TG SAFE) conducted surprise inspections on Saturday.
The teams inspected restaurants in Gachibowli, Madhapur and HITEC City.
Officials found several serious violations during the inspections. The FSSAI licences of 11 restaurants were cancelled with immediate effect.
The restaurants were also directed to stop their operations for violating food safety regulations.
Antheora Kitchen and Bar Continues Operations
Officials found unhygienic conditions in several restaurant kitchens during the inspections.
They reportedly found insects, flies and cockroaches near food preparation areas. Officials also found signs of rodent contamination.
Spoiled vegetables and expired spices were also found during the inspections.
Raw meat was reportedly stored along with cooked food, raising concerns over cross-contamination.
Officials collected 21 food samples from the inspected establishments. The samples were sent to laboratories for further testing.
The action against the restaurants comes as Hyderabad’s IT corridor sees heavy footfall at restaurants and food outlets.
Officials have also raised concerns over establishments continuing operations despite licence cancellation orders.
The Antheora Kitchen and Bar in Gachibowli was among the establishments whose FSSAI licence was cancelled.
Despite the action, the restaurant reportedly remained open and continued business on Sunday.
The incident has led to calls for strict enforcement against establishments that violate food safety orders.
Consumer groups have urged authorities to take legal action against restaurants that continue operating after their licences are cancelled.
