- Research focuses on maize genotypes under abiotic stress conditions
- Work supervised by Dr. Ira Khan at MANUU’s Botany section
The Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, has announced that Ms. Maleeha Taqdees Malik, daughter of Mr. Malik Moatasim Khan, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Botany. The University declared her successful completion of the programme following her research on high-yielding maize genotypes and their performance under abiotic stress conditions.
Ms. Maleeha Taqdees carried out her doctoral research on the topic “Prospective Validation and Characterization of High Yielding Maize Genotypes under Abiotic Stresses.” Her study focused on understanding how different maize genotypes respond to environmental stressors and identifying varieties capable of delivering higher yields despite adverse climatic conditions. The research also aimed at enhancing crop resilience and productivity, a key area in sustainable agricultural development.
The research work was completed under the supervision of Dr. Ira Khan, Assistant Professor in the Botany Section at MANUU. Dr. Khan provided academic guidance and scientific direction throughout the study period, particularly in the assessment and characterization of maize traits under multiple stress conditions. The project’s findings contribute valuable insights into breeding and cultivation strategies suitable for changing climate patterns.
MANUU, a central university known for promoting higher education through Urdu and advancing research across disciplines, continues to support innovative studies that align with national agricultural and environmental priorities. The University’s Botany Department has increasingly focused on research in plant physiology, genetics, and stress biology, fostering an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration and applied research.
