He called Hyderabad the powerhouse of India’s pharma sector and outlined Telangana’s four-pronged growth strategy: attracting investments, fostering innovation, upskilling talent, and building world-class infrastructure in pharma and life sciences. Emphasising the importance of MSMEs, he said that future progress in life sciences lies where biology meets technology. He detailed the Digital Health Data Exchange initiative, a unified state-led health data portal for advanced digital integration. With India’s MedTech industry valued at USD 14 billion and growing at 14% annually, he underscored that 70% of medical devices are still imported and stressed the need for faster indigenisation.

He also mentioned the Medical Devices Park at Sultanpur, Patancheru — India’s largest MedTech R&D and manufacturing cluster — which is now expanding in its second phase. With this infrastructure, Hyderabad is rapidly emerging as a global destination for medical tourism.

Dr. Reddanna Pallu, Executive President, Federation of Asian Biotech Association (FABA), noted that India’s share in the global biopharma market stands at only 0.3%. He urged for accelerated innovation through the FABA Academy initiative, which connects startups, investors, and scientific leaders to create a stronger biotech ecosystem with better skill development.

British Deputy High Commissioner Gareth Wynn Owen highlighted that the India-UK Free Trade Agreement is the broadest trade deal between the two countries. With a projected 50% jump in bilateral trade from the current £43 billion, he said that it opens new doors for collaboration in medical devices and MedTech innovation.
