Maoists Surrender Marks Major Setback For CPI Maoist
- DGP Shivdhar Reddy says 37 Maoists surrendered with weapons
- State committee members Azad, Ramesh and Erra among those who gave up
Hyderabad: Thirty seven Maoists surrendered before Telangana DGP Shivdhar Reddy in what officials described as a major setback for the CPI Maoist party. The DGP said that three of the surrendered members are state committee leaders. They were identified as Koyyala Sambayya alias Azad, Appasi Narayana alias Ramesh and Somda alias Erra. He added that the other thirty four members are from Chhattisgarh. It was understood that twenty five of them are women.
The DGP explained that the surrendered group includes three divisional committee members. He also said they include nine regional committee members and twenty two force members. Meanwhile, he stated that a large amount of weapons had been seized from them. He said that “303 rifles, G3 rifles, AK 47s, SLRs and a large amount of bullets have been handed over.” He added that the Maoists will receive a cash reward and some other incentives under the government scheme.

Later, the DGP said that there is a reward of Rs. 20 lakhs each on Azad and Appasi Narayana. He said that “there is a total reward of Rs. 1.41 crores on all the surrendered Maoists along with them.” He stated that this amount will be handed over to the group as part of the surrender process. He also said that those from Telangana will get the rehabilitation package offered by the state government.
The DGP explained that fifty nine more Maoists from Telangana are still in hiding. He called on them to surrender immediately. He also said that five central committee members remain underground. He named them as Muppalla Lakshman Rao alias Ganapathi, Malla Rajireddy alias Sangram, Tippiri Tirupati alias Devji, Paka Hanumanthu alias Ganesh and Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar. He added that there are up to ten people in the state committee who are yet to surrender.
