Muzaffarpur, June 4: In a tragic incident, at least three people reportedly lost their lives after a massive fire broke out in the ICU of a private hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. The incident comes less than 24 hours after a deadly hotel fire in Delhi that claimed 21 lives, raising serious concerns over fire safety standards in public places.

The fire broke out on the fifth floor of Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur, where the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was located. According to officials, the incident occurred early Thursday morning and was reported to the fire department at around 3.55 am. Firefighters immediately rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.

Authorities said nearly 20 people were safely evacuated from the ICU during the operation. Patients undergoing treatment in the hospital were quickly shifted to nearby medical facilities to ensure continued care.

Preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, officials have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess lapses, if any, in safety protocols.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen said that around 13 patients were admitted in the ICU at the time of the incident, while several others were being treated in the CCU. He added that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Hospital Fire Raises Safety Concerns

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for strict enforcement of fire safety norms in hospitals and high-risk public buildings. Repeated fire accidents in medical facilities have raised questions about emergency preparedness and infrastructure safety compliance.

Officials are expected to conduct a full inspection of the hospital’s fire safety systems, including alarms, exits, and electrical wiring, as part of the ongoing probe.
