The Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering received a major honour on the eve of Army Day 2026. The Chief of Army Staff conferred the prestigious COAS Unit Appreciation on MCEME, marking a historic moment in the institution’s long legacy.
The investiture ceremony took place at the Sapta Shakti Auditorium in Jaipur. Senior military officers and veterans attended the event. The Chief of Army Staff presented the award in recognition of MCEME’s performance and training standards. This was the first time since its raising in 1946 that MCEME received the Chief’s Appreciation Award.
The award recognised MCEME’s efforts over the last two years. During this period, the institution focused on improving training quality for Jawans and Officers of the Corps of EME. These efforts led to MCEME being declared one of the best training establishments of the Indian Army. The recognition highlighted sustained work to modernise systems and strengthen professional standards.
COAS General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, gave away the award to the Commandant of MCEME, Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney, VSM. The Subedar Major also received the honour during the ceremony. The presentation took place in the presence of senior leadership, adding to the significance of the occasion.

Meanwhile, the last two years at MCEME saw wide changes driven by strategic goals, technology growth, and industry collaboration. These reforms aligned with the Indian Army theme of the “Decade of Transformation.” Training infrastructure received renewed focus. Officials upgraded advanced laboratories and converted classrooms into technology enabled learning spaces. The curriculum was revised to include electives on drones, additive manufacturing, robotics, and unmanned aerial attack vectors for Agniveers and Officers.
Also, MCEME integrated Op Sindoor based experiential learning across courses to improve operational relevance. Trainees developed an in house robotic assistant named “Paricharak” to automate routine services through indigenous solutions. The institution also encouraged drone development, operation, and repair to counter enemy designs. MCEME collaborated with Telangana based industry and academic institutions to support Atmanirbharta. These efforts contributed to indigenous solutions across radars, missiles, armoured systems, space applications, and drone warfare, in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’.
