Medak Panchayat Secretary Gets Memo for Sharing Civic Woes With Harish Rao; Sparks Public Outrage

Medak/Hyderabad, June 24 (Maxim News): A woman panchayat secretary in Chippalturthi village, Medak district, has landed in trouble after candidly revealing civic challenges to BRS leader and former Minister T. Harish Rao during his visit on Monday. The official, identified as Sruthija, has been served a memo on the orders of Medak District Collector Rahul Raj, sparking criticism from villagers, BRS supporters, and civic rights activists.

The incident unfolded when Harish Rao visited the village as part of a local outreach program. Upon spotting a garbage collection tractor lying idle at the panchayat office, Rao inquired about the halt in sanitation services. Sruthija explained that the panchayat lacked funds even for diesel and that she had personally spent nearly ₹80,000 to keep office operations running.

Panchayat workers also shared their plight, stating they had been unpaid for three months. During the visit, Harish Rao highlighted other civic concerns, including non-functional streetlights and deteriorating infrastructure, and urged immediate remedial measures.

However, what appeared to be a transparent exchange aimed at improving the village’s condition took an unexpected turn. The district administration served a memo to Sruthija, reportedly for sharing internal matters publicly without prior clearance.

The memo has triggered widespread discontent, with locals and opposition leaders questioning the government’s priorities. Many argue that instead of addressing the genuine civic issues raised, the administration chose to penalize an officer for her honesty.
