Bhadradri Kothagudem, June 14: A mild earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck parts of Bhadradri Kothagudem district in the early hours of Sunday, triggering panic among residents but causing no reported loss of life or property.
The tremor occurred at 2:26 a.m. and was felt across several areas, including Kothagudem, Palvancha, Burgampadu and Bhadrachalam. Many residents woke up as the ground shook for a few seconds, prompting people to rush out of their homes in fear.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake’s epicentre was located near Kothagudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, around 111 kilometres northwest of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh.
Residents reported that household items and utensils moved during the tremor. The sudden shaking caused anxiety among people, especially those asleep at the time of the incident.
District authorities said there were no reports of injuries or damage to property. Officials stated that the earthquake was of low intensity and did not result in any major incidents.
Many residents remained outdoors for some time after the tremors, fearing possible aftershocks. However, normalcy gradually returned as authorities confirmed that the situation was under control.
Officials are continuing to monitor the situation and have advised citizens not to panic in the event of minor seismic activity. Experts noted that earthquakes of this magnitude generally cause limited impact but can be felt over a wide area.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for public awareness regarding earthquake safety and emergency preparedness.
