Miss England’s Allegations Put Chowmahalla Palace Event Under Fire

Hyderabad, May 26 (Maxim News): Fresh controversy has erupted around the Miss World 2025 pageant held in Hyderabad, as troubling allegations by Miss England, Milla Magee, have shed light on the mismanagement and questionable conduct during a high-profile sponsorship dinner at the historic Chowmahalla Palace.

What was billed as a glittering cultural exchange between global beauty queens and India’s elite has now come under intense scrutiny, following Magee’s claims of an “unpleasant experience” during the event. Her statements have prompted investigations and ignited a debate over the conduct of some attendees, the ethics of government spending, and the exploitation of contestants for commercial promotion.

The pageant, estimated to cost Rs. 54 crore, is being co-funded by the Congress-led Telangana government, which pledged Rs. 27 crore toward the event. The remaining expenses were to be covered by the Miss World organization. In a bid to offset costs, a high-level government committee, led by a senior IAS officer, was tasked with raising sponsorships. However, the drive reportedly hit a wall after potential sponsors backed out due to a demand for dual agreements—formal and informal—raising eyebrows about transparency.

Despite initial reports suggesting the contestants’ banquet was canceled due to regional Indo-Pak tensions, the event ultimately proceeded, welcoming nearly 300 influential figures from politics, business, entertainment, and hospitality. The guest list notably included members of the ruling party and prominent industrialists.

According to sources, each VIP table featured two pageant contestants and six high-profile guests. A senior official was heard urging relaxed interaction, telling attendees, “This is an easy evening. You are free to mingle, take selfies, and share your opinions.”

While many interactions were reportedly cordial, serious allegations have emerged. One incident allegedly involved a ruling party leader making inappropriate advances toward an international contestant. The young woman, visibly distressed, attempted to report the behavior to a nearby female leader, but language barriers reportedly prevented effective communication.

Intelligence agencies are now probing the incident and working to identify the affected contestant. If confirmed, the fallout could have significant diplomatic and reputational consequences.

In addition to the banquet controversy, the Miss World organization is facing criticism for allegedly coercing contestants into participating in promotional events not originally included in the official itinerary. Sources claim contestants were paid between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh for these appearances, which largely served to endorse private brands rather than celebrate cultural exchange or talent.
Social media platforms have erupted in outrage, with netizens decrying what they see as the commodification of contestants and the misuse of the pageant as a commercial vehicle. Hashtags like #MissWorldScandal and #ChowmahallaControversy are trending across platforms, amplifying calls for accountability.

What was meant to showcase India’s soft power and cultural heritage has instead drawn global criticism. Observers say the pageant has become a cautionary tale of blurred lines between governance, corporate interests, and international diplomacy.

Opposition leaders have seized the moment to question the state government’s priorities, accusing officials of misusing public funds and failing to maintain the dignity of international guests.

As investigations unfold, all eyes remain on Hyderabad. Will the organizers offer clarity and restitution—or will this become yet another blot on the image of international events hosted in India? (Maxim News)
