BJP Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy raised the issue of the monkey menace in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour on Thursday. He said that farmers are suffering badly due to the monkey problem and stressed that monkeys are damaging crops in large numbers. He noted that the issue has grown across several regions and requires urgent attention.

Reddy said that some government departments avoid responsibility by saying the monkey problem does not fall under their department. He asked them to clarify which department should address the issue. He added that the monkey issue seems like a small matter at first. However, he said that people often laugh when they hear about this issue, even though it causes real loss to farmers.

Konda Vishweshwar Reddy calls for nodal agency on monkey issue

The MP reminded the House that many states in the country, including Telangana, face this problem. He said a nodal agency is needed to deal with the monkey menace in a coordinated way. He also said that the monkey problem is even mentioned during the Telangana local body elections. According to him, people are discussing the issue in villages and demanding solutions from local leaders.

Reddy said that the monkey issue has become an agenda point in the Sarpanch elections. He mentioned that people are saying that if the monkey issue is resolved, they will support a candidate for the Sarpanch post. He stressed that this shows how serious the issue has become for rural communities. He further added that the problem is severe even in the national capital, Delhi.

The MP urged the government to launch a national level programme to prevent crop damage caused by monkeys. He said that the problem affects many parts of India and must be treated as a national concern. His remarks added weight to the ongoing discussions on human–wildlife conflict and highlighted the need for structured measures to protect farmers.
