Muslim Organizations Demand All Parties To Earmark Seats In The MP Elections 2023
Bhopal/Hyderabad, Aug 31 (Maxim News): Keeping in view that all the political parties in Madhya Pradesh have geared up for the Assembly elections which are likely to be held in the month of November, this year, the Muslim Social Organizations have intensified their demand for providing representation in the legislature in proportion to their population.
In a meeting held in Bhopal under the auspices of the Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad, representatives of various Muslim organizations decided to urge political parties to give representation to Muslims in proportion to their population. If the parties do not give adequate representation, the organization will appeal to voters to vote for local candidates instead of party symbols.
Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad President Mohammad Mahir said that there are 16 seats in the 230-member Assembly where a Muslim candidate is likely to win if given a ticket by a political party. However, Muslim representation in the Assembly has been declining steadily due to the neglect of political parties.
In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP gave only one ticket to a Muslim candidate, while the Congress gave three tickets. Out of the three Congress tickets, two candidates won. “We want political parties to give us representation in proportion to our population, “Mahir said, “if they want 90 percent of our votes, they should give us 90 percent representation.
The Muslim organization will soon meet with the leaders of the BJP, Congress, and other political parties to discuss the issue of Muslim representation. They will also launch a movement at the provincial level to raise awareness about the issue and mobilize support for Muslim candidates.
The movement for Muslim representation in the MP Assembly elections is gaining momentum. It remains to be seen whether political parties will heed the demands of Muslim organizations. (Maxim News)
