Muslim Spiritual Leader Khwaja Syed Chishti Shot Dead In Nashik
On Tuesday, a 35-year-old Muslim spiritual leader from Afghanistan was assassinated in Maharashtra’s Nashik.
Khwaja Syed Chishti, known locally as “Sufi Baba“, was assassinated about 200 kilometres from Mumbai. According to police, he was shot in the head and died instantly. The assailants fled in one of his SUVs.
The primary suspect is his driver.
According to police, Sayyad Chishti had lived in Nashik’s Yeola town for several years and had no religious motive for the killing.
Witnesses identified Syed Chishti’s driver, according to police officer Sachin Patil. The suspect is being interrogated.
The motive is not known yet. The police said Syed Chishti may have been killed over a plot of land that he had acquired with help from local people, since he could not buy land in the country as an Afghanistan citizen.
The killing took place at an open plot in the MIDC area of Yeola town, the police said.
