Hyderabad, July 9: A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Hingoli Nanded region of Maharashtra early Thursday, with tremors felt across several districts of Telangana, including Nirmal, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Kamareddy, and Jagtial.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the first earthquake occurred at 1:40 am with a magnitude of 4.6. It was followed by a series of aftershocks measuring 3.6, 3.9, and 4.1 on the Richter scale.
The epicentre was located in the Hingoli Nanded region of Maharashtra. However, residents in northern Telangana reported feeling the tremors during the early hours of Thursday.
Officials said aftershocks are common after a moderate earthquake. They usually decrease in both frequency and intensity over time.
No casualties or major structural damage have been reported so far due to the seismic activity.
Authorities advised residents to rely on updates from the National Centre for Seismology, which monitors and publishes real time information on earthquakes across India.
