Hyderabad, July 9: More than 100 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) staged a protest on Wednesday over pending remuneration, disrupting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board had engaged Anganwadi teachers and other personnel as BLOs for the SIR exercise. However, the women BLOs suspended the distribution of enumeration forms and gathered at the SCB office to protest.
The protesters alleged that the State government had not paid their remuneration for election duties performed during the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly election and the subsequent by election. They said they had again been assigned SIR duties despite the pending payments.
The protest continued for nearly an hour, with BLOs raising slogans against the government. They claimed each BLO was entitled to receive between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 for election duty, but only about five percent of the amount had been paid so far.
Following the protest, BLO in charge and SCB Health Wing Superintendent Devender assured the protesters that the Chief Electoral Officer had received the cheque for the pending payments. He said the remuneration would be disbursed next Monday, as the CEO was currently out of station.
Meanwhile, BRS leader and Secunderabad Cantonment spokesperson Manne Krishank criticised the State government over the delay in clearing the BLOs’ pending remuneration through a post on social media.
