Prime Minister Modi criticized the Congress for encouraging infiltration from neighboring countries into the northeastern states, especially Assam. He said the BJP is determined to completely stop illegal infiltration. However, he alleged that Congress is protecting infiltrators. Later, while addressing a gathering in Guwahati, he said, “The Muslim League led to the partition of the country. But today MMC (Maoist, Muslim, Congress) have been formed. People should be vigilant about this. Congress is protecting the infiltrators. The BJP, however, is determined to completely stop illegal infiltration. The next five years are a very important time for Assam. The Congress has become more dangerous due to its lack of power in the last ten years than when it was in power before.”

National Security focus during Assam visit

During his day long visit, the Prime Minister launched development works worth about Rs 5,500 crore. He also inaugurated the first Emergency Landing Facility in the northeastern states. The Emergency Landing Facility was inaugurated in Moran, Assam. It has been built on the Moran bypass on National Highway No 37 NH 127. It serves as a highway during normal times. However, it functions as a runway during emergencies. It is located about 300 km from the Chinese border. Therefore, it holds strategic value.

The facility supports emergency landing of IAF fighter jets, helicopters and cargo planes during border tensions. After the inauguration, Rafale, Sukhoi and Tejas fighter jets performed maneuvers there. Built at a cost of Rs 100 crore, the 4.2 km stretch supports civil and military use. It allows 40 ton fighter jets and 74 ton transport aircraft to take off with ease.
