Delhi/Hyderabad, Mar 12 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court has closed the hearing on petitions filed by BRS over the defection of its MLAs in Telangana. The party had sought disqualification of legislators who joined Congress after winning on BRS tickets.
Justice Sanjay Karol delivered the order after detailed arguments. The court noted that the Assembly Speaker had already taken a decision on the matter. Therefore, it found no need to continue further proceedings.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared for the Assembly Speaker position. He informed the court that the Speaker had already examined the disqualification petitions. He also stated that the Speaker passed appropriate orders after due process.

The bench agreed with these submissions. It observed that the Speaker had already disposed of the petitions. Hence, the court declared that no further hearing was required in the case.
The Supreme Court also directed the Speaker to provide copies of the orders. It asked that complainants receive the documents within two days. This direction aims to ensure procedural transparency.
The case relates to ten MLAs elected on BRS tickets. They later joined the Congress party. As a result, BRS approached the Supreme Court. The party alleged delay by the Speaker in deciding disqualification pleas. It also requested immediate action against the defected MLAs.
However, the Speaker recently rejected the disqualification petitions. This decision effectively ended the legal dispute before the Supreme Court. Consequently, the matter now stands closed at this stage.
