New Delhi, Nov. 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ marches across several states on Sunday.
The marches were organised to counter the INDIA bloc’s rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The Opposition alliance is protesting alleged electoral irregularities and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In Shimla, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the BJP march. Party workers participated in large numbers, and the procession was scheduled to conclude at Chaura Maidan.
Himanta Biswa Sarma Targets Rahul Gandhi
Speaking to reporters, Sarma questioned the Opposition’s demand for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.
He asked whether elections in Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Rae Bareli should also be cancelled. He said Congress governments should resign first before demanding resignations from others.

Sarma also accused Rahul Gandhi of questioning election results selectively. He said the Opposition accepted the electoral process in states where it won.

He further argued that Gandhi should resign as an MP because he was elected through electronic voting machines in 2024.
Sarma claimed the BJP’s nationwide marches had drawn large public participation. He also accused Gandhi of protecting infiltrators and demanded their removal from the country.
Anurag Thakur Accuses Congress of Spreading Anarchy
BJP MP Anurag Thakur also participated in the Shimla march. He accused Congress of spreading anarchy and obstructing India’s progress.
Thakur referred to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and criticised Congress for holding its rally on November 1.
He alleged that Congress leaders were responsible for the violence against Sikhs. He also accused Rahul Gandhi of seeking support from foreign forces.
Thakur claimed Gandhi’s alleged attempt to bring about regime change would not succeed. He said people were watching the Opposition’s actions.
Meanwhile, BJP National President Nitin Nabin led a similar march in Haryana’s Rohtak.
The BJP’s nationwide mobilisation came amid the INDIA bloc’s protest against alleged electoral irregularities.
