Hyderabad: National Voters’ Day is being celebrated across India today, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the occasion to appeal to the youth to register as voters after completing 18 years of age. He said the day holds special meaning as it comes just before January 26, when the Constitution of India came into force. Therefore, he described the moment as an opportunity to pay tribute to the framers of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister raised the issue of youth voter registration during his first Mann Ki Baat programme of the year. This was the 130th episode of the radio address. He said the voter is the soul of democracy and the country. He also said when young citizens become voters, the entire town, village, or city should come together to celebrate the moment. According to him, sharing sweets and offering congratulations will help spread awareness about voting.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi once again urged young citizens to register as voters immediately after turning 18. He said being a voter is not only a constitutional right but also a major responsibility. He added that voting helps shape the future of India. Therefore, he called on the youth to take this responsibility seriously and actively participate in democratic processes.
The Prime Minister also praised those working at the grassroots level in the election process. He said their efforts keep Indian democracy alive. He congratulated election staff and acknowledged their hard work. He noted that the strength of democracy depends on the commitment of both voters and those who manage the electoral system.
Later, Prime Minister Modi shared his message on Voters’ Day through Twitter. “Happy National Voters’ Day. This is a day that further strengthens the faith in the democratic values of our country. Congratulations to the Election Commission staff. Being a voter is not only a constitutional right, but also a key responsibility to shape the future of India. Let us always participate in the democratic processes and strengthen a developed India,” Modi said in his message.
Also, he linked the celebration of National Voters’ Day with the broader idea of constitutional values. He stressed that active participation by citizens, especially the youth, strengthens democracy. He concluded by encouraging continuous involvement in democratic activities to build a stronger and developed India.
