Nepali National Arrested For Supplying Indian Sim Cards To ISI
Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept 10 (Maxim News): Police have arrested a Nepali national on charges of supplying Indian SIM cards to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency. The accused, Prabhat Chaurasia (43), is a B.Sc graduate and worked in pharmaceutical companies in Maharashtra and Delhi, the Delhi Police said.
Police said he had purchased 16 SIM cards from Bihar and Maharashtra using his Aadhaar card registered in Latur, maharashtra. He later used them to carry out espionage related activities, Delhi Police said. The accused was arrested on August 28 by a special police team from Vijay Block in Laxmi Nagar.
Police found that eleven SIMs were being operated by ISI operators from Lahore, Bahawalpur and various parts of Pakistan. Investigation revealed that the accused had contracted ISI handlers through a Nepali intermediary in 2024.
He was lured by ISI agents with the promise of a US visa and opportunities in Journalism abroad. he was assigned the task of collecting information related to DRDO ad army organisations, said Special Cell Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kaushik
The police said that the accused smuggled SIM cards from India to Kathmandu and later handed them over to ISI handlers. In 2017, Prabhat Chaurasia started a logistics company in Kathmandu.
It was closed due to financial losses. The police suspect that he had developed contacts with ISI handlers for earning money. Meanwhile, the police said that several digital devices were seized from the accused.
The police said that a case has been registered against the accused prabhat Chaurasia and an investigation is underway. (Maxim News)
