Recently, during the 150th anniversary of Vande mataram, this song was the subject of discussion. Speaking in parliament, Prime Minister Modi said that the then Nehru government had removed some verses from the original song written by lyricist Bankinchandra Chatterjee. The last four verses were removed on the grounds that it would harm secularism. The discussion sparked a political storm when Prime Minister Modi alleged that the Congress party had removed some lines from this song in 1937, which sowed the seeds of the partition of the country.
