Under the leadership of Civil Supplies Department Commissioner DS Chauhan, the policies in force in Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and AP have already been studied and the report is planned to be submitted to the sub-committee.

In this context, the ministerial sub-committee appointed on the issue of new ration and health cards will make many changes regarding the determination of income limit. To this extent, the income of Rs. 1.50 lakhs in rural areas and Rs. 2 lakhs in urban areas will be taken as the basis for issuing the cards.  There will be a rule that the land area should be less than 3.5 acres for wet and 7.5 acres for dry land.

There are 89.96 lakh cards in Telangana and 2.81 crore members are covered by them. Out of this, 5.66 lakh cards are under Antyodaya and 5,416 cards are under Annapurna schemes. Annual income is considered as eligibility for issuance of cards. Currently, there is a separate income limit for rural and urban areas, but it seems that there are opportunities to continue the same in the new rules to be issued. The final decision will be announced before the final meeting on September 21.
