Delhi/Hyderabad, April 2 (Maxim News): The controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. The opposition parties have staged a protest against the bill.
Amidst their protests, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday afternoon. Later. Rijuju took up the discussion on a (Waqf Amendment Bill), Voting will be held after a discussion lasting almost 8 hours. While the central government is adamant about getting this bill passed, all the opposition parties are opposing it.
The Centre has brought this new bill to make women’s participation in governance mandatory by increasing transparency and accountability in the Waqf governing bodies.
To this end, about 40 amendments will be made in the Waqf Act of 1995. Government sources said that these changes are being made on the basis of demands coming from the Muslim community. the Centre introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha in August last year.
At that time, due to heavy opposition from the opposition, it was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for scrutiny. The committee approved the bill with several proposals.
In this context, the Centre has brought the Waqf Bill before the Lok Sabha today. After being approved by the Lok Sabha, it will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on thursday.
The BJP believes that there will be no problem in passing the bill as the ruling NDA has a majority in both the houses. (Maxim News)
