Families Of Niloufer Victims & Activist – Allege Human Rights Violation, File Complaint With SHRC And Inquiry Officer – Demand 10 Lac Ex – Gratia And Action Against Doctors
Hyderabad, Feb 14 (Maxim News): Activist &Families of deceased in the recent Niloufer Hospital episode, where 5 young women lost their precious life, came together and filed a complaint with SHRC and the Inquiry officer here on Tuesday, stating that there were serious human rights violations in the course of C – Section surgeries and subsequent medical management in all the cases.
City based NGO, Helping Hand Foundation took collective responsibility on behalf of all the victims, who hail from economically weaker sections of the society – ‘It was important to make a proper assessment and representation of the entire case history to the inquiry officer and the SHRC’ said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari, Managing Trustee of Helping Hand Foundation. Without proper means to seek addressal and wherewithal to engage a lawyer, such cases normally don’t get to present all the required details to the authorities said Mr. Askari.
A detail representation with an hour to hour break down of events that lead to the death of all the four young women were documented and filed with the SHRC and the Inquiry officer. Reena w/o Ramesh the 5th Victim is not traceable and attempts to contact them on their phone and address given in the records went in vain according to Mrs. Seetha Devi, Mahila Mandal officer from KPBH area.
We have observed serious human rights violation in at least 2 cases, patient Bushra Fatima was slapped by the doctor who was attending to her when bleeding started profusely after C Section surgery said her father in law who is now got the responsibility of shouldering the burden of the infant and 2 other grand children which the deceased has left. Apparently Bushra Begum Husband attempted suicide and drank poison when he went through this trauma.
Bushra Begum Mother further said that she saw a foreign object when an ultra sound was done after repeated pleas that girl was complaining of severe stomach pain.
In the case of Farah Fatima and Nusrath Begum who underwent hysterectomies immediately after C Section – the families of the victims were kept in the dark and local police was summoned in the evening to talk to the family. The doctors called the police for their protection said Mr. S. Q Masood a plumber by profession and Masood further said her sister expired at Niloufer but doctors did not inform the family – she was declared brought dead to OGH.
Infact 2 of the 4 patients allegedly expired at Niloufer hospital after hysterectomies were done but families were not informed about it and the families only came to know when police was summoned – We brought this up today with our meeting with the Hyderabad District Collector Mr. Rahul Bojja, when we went to submit the petition said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari of HHF.
Venkatesh a car driver by profession and husband of Anusha who expired on 4th Feb 2017 said why did the doctors not inform him that there was trouble in the hospital, it may be noted that 3 other patients had expired prior to Anusha.
He further complained that he was asked to shift his wife when the situation got out of control at the dead of the night to OGH – the doctors told us that there are no ventilators available in Niloufer and it would better to take her to OGH. Another patient Bushra Begum was also shifted to OGH in the dead of the night alleged his family members.
We want to the Government to take stringent action against the erring doctors and also pay a compensation of at least Rs 10 lacs per family to the next of kith and Kin as all these families are from economically weaker sections and are facing hardships to provide for the young which the deceased have left behind.
Video recordings of the doctors deserting the Operation theatre and running away and bad state of hygiene with blood and uterus scattered around recorded by one of the families was also shown to the inquiry officer.
Helping Hand Foundation announced that it has enrolled 4 infants in their community outreach program and will provide for the cost of lactation and medical expenses for the next 2 years. (Maxim News)
