According to officials, among the dead were a Naib Tehsildar (Executive Magistrate) and a local tailor. Some of the bodies were completely burnt, delaying the process of identification. The injured were immediately shifted to the Army’s base hospital in Badami Bagh and other nearby hospitals for treatment. Fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze that broke out after several vehicles parked inside the compound caught fire. The intensity of the blast shattered window glass in nearby buildings, and the sound was heard as far as 10 kilometers away from Nowgam.

Official sources added that the explosive material had been seized earlier during a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police in Faridabad, where a “white collar” terror module was busted. In that operation, 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was recovered. During raids, investigators also found 300 kilograms of explosives at the residence of Dr. Muzammil Ganaie in Faridabad. The arrests of Dr. Adil Rather and Dr. Ganaie led authorities to further suspects linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror network.

The third accused, Dr. Umar Nabi, had escaped the raid but was later killed in a car blast near the Red Fort, which claimed several civilian lives. Police also arrested a lady doctor from Lucknow, Shaheen Shahid, after an assault rifle was recovered from her vehicle. Following the Nowgam explosion, DGP J&K Nalin Prabhat, along with senior officers, visited the site for an on-spot assessment. The investigation continues as officials verify the cause and sequence of the accidental detonation.
