Hyderabad: Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has officially joined the Janata Dal (United). The development marks a notable moment in Bihar politics. Nishant took the party’s primary membership during a program held at the JDU office in Patna.

Nishant Kumar joins JDU as leaders attend Patna event

Senior party leaders attended the event in Patna and welcomed Nishant Kumar into the party. The gathering included JDU National Executive President Sanjay Jha, Union Minister Lalan Singh, and State Minister Vijay Kumar Chowdhury. Party workers also extended a grand welcome during the program.

However, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not present when his son formally joined the party. Despite his absence, the event drew strong participation from party leaders and cadres.

With Nishant Kumar’s entry, the party highlighted a new slogan. JDU introduced the message “Youthful thought.. Firm determination” during the program. The slogan aims to signal a new phase for the party as it welcomes younger leadership.

After taking membership, Nishant Kumar addressed the gathering. He thanked party members and expressed confidence in continuing the legacy associated with his father’s public service.

Nishant Kumar said, “I thank all those who have placed their trust in me. I am proud of the services my father has rendered to the state and the country for the last 20 years and I am confident that I will uphold that trust.”

Nishant completed his software engineering from BIT Mesra. People close to the party describe him as educated and soft spoken, similar to his father.

Meanwhile, his political entry has triggered speculation in political circles. Party insiders believe there may be a broader strategy behind his move into politics. According to discussions within party ranks, Nishant Kumar could enter the legislature through the MLC elections scheduled in April.

Later, there is talk that he may take on a larger role in government. Some party circles say he could become Deputy Chief Minister in a new government setup.

At the same time, comments by JDU MLA Harinarayan Singh have added to the political discussion. He said Nitish Kumar may resign as Chief Minister after April 10. He also suggested that major changes could take place in the Bihar government following Nitish Kumar’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha.

Meanwhile, there is also speculation that Nitish Kumar may receive a ministerial berth in the central government. These developments have created a fresh stir in Bihar politics as attention shifts to the coming months.
