Hyderabad, / Bihar, Nov 19: Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) Chief Nitish Kumar is set to resign on Wednesday, November 19, to pave the way for a fresh National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the state.
The NDA won a landslide victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 202 of 243 seats, and a new government will be sworn in the next day.
Though no official announcement has confirmed Nitish Kumar’s return as the Chief Minister, statements from alliance leaders strongly indicate he will take oath again, marking his record-tenth term.
There are hints at “surprise elements” in the upcoming cabinet, indicating possible new faces among ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new NDA government is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, starting at 11 am at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
The event is expected to be grand, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states attending. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to be present.
Nitish Kumar to Resigns
The current Bihar assembly’s term ends on November 22, with dissolution to occur after Nitish Kumar submits his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on November 19.
Before this, the outgoing NDA cabinet unanimously authorised Nitish Kumar to recommend assembly dissolution and proceed with government formation.
BJP and JD(U), along with allies such as Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM(S), and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP, will be part of the new government.
The cabinet formation is expected to include 16 ministers each from BJP and JD(U), with smaller allies receiving a few ministerial berths. The JD(U) retains the Chief Minister’s post, while BJP and LJP (RV) may get deputy CM positions.
This transition reflects the NDA’s strong mandate and Nitish Kumar’s enduring leadership in Bihar politics. The ceremony at Gandhi Maidan will showcase the alliance’s unity and strength in the state’s governance going forward.
