No reduction in Dasara holidays, clarifies Education Dept

Hyderabad, September 21: Confusion prevailed over number of holidays for Dasara festival after a proposal forwarded by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to the Directorate of School Education on Tuesday. The SCERT proposed to cut short Dasara vacation as schools have lost seven working days because of heavy rains and festivals such as National Integration Day.

Earlier, the Education Department issued a circular to all schools mentioning that Dasara holidays will begin from September 26 and conclude by October 8. As October 9 is Sunday, schools will reopen on October 10. The SCERT raised objection for declaring holidays for 15 days including Sundays.

In the proposal, SCERT put forward two options. One is to reduce number of holidays and reopen schools on October 1 instead of October 10 or declare all second Saturdays as working days. However, School Education Department made it clear that holidays for Dasara will be as per circular.
