Not A Single Eligible Voter Name Will Be Removed: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Kolkata/Hyderabad, Mar 10 (Maxim News): Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has said that no eligible voter’s name will be removed from the voter list.  It is known that the assembly elections will be held in West Bengal in a few days.  In this context, the CEC has been touring Bengal for two days to inspect the election arrangements.

He held a series of meetings with political parties and officials.  Speaking to the media in Kolkata on Tuesday (March 10), he said that the priority of the Election Commission is to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in West Bengal.

He said that the people of West Bengal have always believed in peaceful and participatory democracy.  He warned that government employees of all departments will have to work as per the EC instructions during the Bengal election process. He said that no laxity in election duties will be tolerated.  He said that every eligible vot3er will have the opportunity to cast their vote.

He said that there are about 80 thousand polling stations in West Bengal, of which about 61 thousand are in rural areas.  He revealed that the Election Commission will implement 100 percent webcasting in polling booths across the state to enhance transparency in the voting process.  

He said that the Special Revision (SIR) process of voter lists was carried out in Bengal as per the constitution.  This was completely legal. He said that the Election Commission will return to Delhi and hold a review meeting on the Bengal elections and arrangements.

Meanwhile, CEC Gyanesh Kumar, who visited Bengal to inspect the arrangements for the assembly elections, faced a wave of protests.  Some people protested against SIR in Bengal and said, “Gyanesh Kumar, go back.” (Maxim News)
