Notification released for LS polls: CEO

Hyderabad, March 18 (Maxim News): The Election Commission today released a notification for conduct of the general elections across the country. Telangana CEO Rajat Kumar today released the notification for conducting polls for 17 Lok Sabha seats in the State.

With this, the major program of filing nominations started for Lok Sabha elections. The CEO clarified that nominations will not be accepted on holidays i.e. March 21 on account of Holi festival, March 24 fourth Saturday and March 25 Sunday. The election activity got momentum as the government pressed into service some 2.50 lakh personnel, including Revenue, police and others.

Similarly in Andhra Pradesh, CEO Dwivedi issued a notification for conducting the polls for 175 Assembly seats and 25 LS Seats. The first phase of polling was kickstarted in 91 Lok Sabha seats in 20 States. Nominations will be accepted from 11 am to 3 pm and the program will end on March 25. On March 26, the EC officials will scrutinize nominations papers which can be withdrawn for two days from March 27 to 28. The EC has already announced that the polls will be held on April 11 and results will be announced on May 23 followed by counting of the votes.

Rajat Kumar said the EC has intensified the security at the polling booth centers to file nominations. The political parties can make use of advertisement material like flexes, banners and hoardings by taking prior permission of the officials concerned, he said. The nominations without proper information will be rejected and the political parties should not involve students or youth for the poll campaigning, he said. He also warned that stringent action will be taken against the candidates if poll code was violated. He also appealed to the candidates in fray to give details of foreign assets in their affidavits.
