Hyderabad, May 9: Omar Abdullah has dismissed speculation about a split in the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and said there were no “Eknath Shindes” in his party.
The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister reacted strongly to remarks made by BJP Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, who alleged that internal divisions were growing within the National Conference.
Sunil Sharma had claimed that several MLAs were ready to break away from the party. He also alleged that Omar Abdullah was delaying cabinet expansion due to fears of rebellion within the JKNC.
Omar Abdullah attacks BJP over split claims
Responding to the allegations, Omar Abdullah said all JKNC MLAs remained united and committed to the party. He asserted that no MLA would leave the National Conference to join the BJP.
The Chief Minister also criticised the BJP over references to Eknath Shinde. He alleged that Shinde had split his former party with BJP support and accused the BJP of attempting similar political strategies elsewhere.
Omar Abdullah further linked the delay in cabinet expansion to the pending restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Centre had not restored statehood despite repeated demands.
He also claimed that people of Jammu and Kashmir would not forgive the BJP for delaying the restoration process.
The Chief Minister alleged that the BJP’s statements indicated that statehood may not be restored unless the party came to power in the Union Territory.
