Omicron Knocked Hyderabad, 3 foreigners tested positive

Three cases of the newly detected Omicron Covid variant have been reported at the Hyderabad airport.

The cases were reported after one 24-year-old Kenya national and a Somalia national arrived in Hyderabad.

Another seven-year-old who was flying to Kolkata had also tested positive for the new variant on arrival in Hyderabad. The Telangana government had informed West Bengal prior to his arrival.

As reported earlier, the government has strengthened the testing mechanism at the Hyderabad international airport, among other measures, in the wake of ‘Omicron’ threat.

RT-PCR tests are being conducted on passengers arriving from the 11 countries which have been declared “at risk” by the Centre, it said.
