One Billion Eggs Wasted Every Year, NECC Report On India Reveals

Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 12 (Maxim News): A report on egg consumption and production in India has revealed many interesting details. The National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) promotes eggs consumption among the people. NECC, which has over 25,000 poultry farmers as members, plays a key role in determining daily egg prices. Currently, the Indian poultry sector has grown to be one of the largest markets in the world with a value of about Rs. 1,14,000 crore.

It is the third largest egg producer in the world, producing 13,800 crore eggs annually. However, only 11,000 crore eggs reach consumers. ‘Inc-42’ said in its study that 1,000 crore eggs are wasted annually due to transportation errors. States like AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra etc. are leading in egg production. An Indian eats only 101 eggs on an average per year. This is 44 percent less than the world average. (Maxim News)
