Opportunity Given To GENCOs For Selling Electricity Directly

Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept 13 (Maxim News): The Center has given a new opportunity to the States that are short of electricity and directed the power generating stations GENCOs to sell electricity directly, even after the expiry date specified in the Power Purchase Agreement.

The Central Electricity Department has issued an order giving an opportunity for this. In the latest order, it has been said that the order issued last March to resell the power to the DISCOMs who had bought electricity under the old contract after the expiry of the period has expired.

If the deadline expires, if the DISCOMs have the opportunity, they can buy the electricity that is available at a low price and not from the plants where the cost of production is high, it explained that the previous order is being canceled.

henceforth, the electricity generated in the thermal and gas-based power plants whose PPA has expired will be directly sold to GENCO in the Indian Energy Exchange.

The Central Power Department has made it clear that a new Central pool system has been designed to sell the electricity generated in Central government power generation centers even if the PPAs end.

79,247.60 million units of electricity are generated daily in 16 plants with a total production capacity of 15,386 MW across the country. DISCOM interested in buying this electricity can apply. A new PPA should be made on the condition that the required DISCOMs will purchase electricity for at least five years.

For example, Ramagundam plants generate 13,080.30 million units of electricity. It can be purchased for Rs. 2.60 per unit as a mobile charge and another 54 paise as a fixed charge. If no one comes forward to buy, the power from these plants will be sold on the Indian Energy Exchange. The Center has said that any power plant that has completed its old age in the future can join the Central pool. (Maxim News)
