Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar Gates Opened; Thunderstorm Alert For Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Authorities in Hyderabad have opened the gates of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs as continuous rainfall raised water levels following a thunderstorm alert issued across Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching 40–50 kmph in multiple districts. The alert, effective from 10:11 a.m. to 1:11 p.m. on October 29, 2025, urges residents to stay indoors and avoid travel during the storm period.
Heavy Rain Forecast Across Telangana
The IMD has placed Hanumakonda, Hyderabad, Jangaon, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mahbubnagar, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Ranga Reddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Warangal, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts under alert.
Officials have cautioned that thunderstorms may bring heavy showers, lightning, and strong surface winds, urging citizens to stay away from open areas and low-lying zones.
Twin Reservoirs Witness High Inflows
At Osman Sagar, the water level reached 1788.85 feet, just below the Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1790.00 feet, holding 3.636 TMC of water. Authorities reported inflows of 1,800 cusecs and outflows of 2,630 cusecs, with six gates opened to two feet and four gates opened to three feet.
Similarly, Himayat Sagar recorded a level of 1762.25 feet against the FTL of 1763.50 feet, storing 2.650 TMC of water. Officials noted inflows of 2,200 cusecs and outflows of 3,963 cusecs through four gates opened to three feet.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Irrigation Department are monitoring water levels closely to prevent flooding in downstream areas. Residents near the Musi River catchment have been urged to remain vigilant.
