Hyderabad: Students of the Osmania University wishing to crack the civil services examinations will no longer have to pay exorbitant fees to get coaching from private coaching institutions.
The university intends to start coaching for the union Public Service Commission’s Civil Services examination, Staff Selection Commission, Railway Recruitment Board and other bank examinations besides for Telangana State Public Service Commission’s examinations from this year.
Accordingly, the administration has created a Civil Services Academy and appointed Prof C Ganesh of Department of Sociology, University College of Arts and Social Sciences, as its director. It is also creating a facility on the campus that can accommodate 600 students at a time for coaching. Candidates will be selected based on an entrance test which will be conducted by the university.
Presently, most students who enrol into various courses in the campus and constituent colleges of the university join private coaching centres in Ashok Nagar and other adjoining areas for coaching for various recruitment exams. They use the university central library for preparation.
In addition to the central library, officials are planning to come up with a facility that houses books exclusively meant for civil services examinations. Apart from free coaching, the varsity administration is planning to launch foundation courses for various recruitment exams. It will also arrange special guest lectures by roping in senior bureaucrats and police officers to motivate students for civil services.
