Phone tapping case: SIT questions former BRS MP Santosh Rao
Phone tapping case | Hyderabad, Jan. 28: The Special Investigation Team on Tuesday questioned former BRS Rajya Sabha MP Joginapalli Santosh Rao in the phone tapping case that has triggered political debate in Telangana.
The questioning took place at the Jubilee Hills ACP office and lasted between five and seven hours. During the examination, SIT officials focused on Santosh Rao’s role in the phone tapping episode and related administrative decisions.
Officials questioned him on who decided the appointment of former Intelligence Chief Prabhakar Rao. They also examined how much Santosh Rao was involved in that decision.
Investigators presented technical evidence and documents during the questioning. They recorded his statement after seeking clarifications on multiple points.
After the inquiry, Santosh Rao left the office. However, officials indicated they may summon him again if required.
Phone tapping case SIT probe widens
Earlier, the SIT questioned former ministers K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao in the same case. Meanwhile, investigators have arrested former Intelligence Chief Prabhakar Rao and several police officials.
The SIT is probing allegations that illegal phone tapping occurred during the BRS government’s tenure. Since the inquiry is progressing rapidly, officials expect further developments in the coming days.
